Latin American Disabled People’s Project  News
January to April 2013

Welcome to our first information bulletin in 2013. We are starting another year of work thanks to the support of our patrons and especially the members and users of the organization, who through their donations and memberships continue their financial support of the organization.

Also, thank you to all the community of Spanish and Portuguese speakers for continuing their support of the organization, for participating in our different activities to raise money and thereby enabling us to keep our doors pen to the public and to continue delivering our services to the community.

I would like to invite everyone to continue renewing their memberships and making their monthly donations, as well as participating in all our activities to raise money for the organization. With your support LADPP will be able to continue working in the service of the community and improving the quality of life amongst the community and its integration in the UK.

Thank you to all our volunteers, employees and members of the Board of Management for supporting the project; your collaboration is vital in enabling us to continue working for our community.

I would like to invite you to continue benefiting from the following services:

-Advice and Representation service for benefits and housing.

-Community integration, disability, health and alternative therapy services.

-User development through offering help at different ability levels in: group English classes Monday to Thursday; one to one English classes; one to one computer classes; workshops in mental health, general health, eligibility for benefits, return to work.

-Complimentary therapy and therapeutics services.

-Knitting classes Mondays and Wednesdays, LADPP Group Support.

 


-Children, Youth and Family service, giving help with mathematics, English, Spanish and Portuguese, as well as help with English for parents. -Direction and Support service for combating mental health illnesses.
-Befriending Project providing company to those who feel isolated.

-Volunteering opportunities to help users and members of the community in general.

AGM 2013. Come and join us at our Annual General Meeting on Saturday 1st June from 2pm to 6pm – AGM 2013 when we will have the opportunity to elect new members of the Board of Management and the annual report of the organization will be given to the community. ADVICE AND REPRESENTATION SERVICE

The Advice and Representation service would like to thank all users who have benefited from its services for their donations and contributions which allows the organization to continue providing the specialized advice and representation services through the coordination and collaboration of Jeremy Gordon Smith and Daniel Da Silva.
We invite everyone to access our legal advice and specialist advice services relating to social benefits, disability, housing and health as well as our general advice service.
The service is available by drop-in on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Wednesdays and Fridays by prior appointment.
To use the specialized representation service please contact Jeremy Gordon Smith (0207 7938399) to make an appointment; we want to help and work with you to find an adequate solution to your problems.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROJECT

Firstly, we thank Southwark Council for all its support that enables this project to be a reality and to improve the quality of life of our users.
The Health and Community Development Service offers the following):

  • Community integration Activities.
  • Personalized training in English and computing.

USER DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

CHILDREN AND FAMILY PROJECT

Thanks to the support of Children In Need, LADPP will be able to continue offering its services aimed at improving the quality of life and integration of our children and families. I urge you to participate in the following activities:
  • Recreational and cultural activities.
  • Counseling assistance and Family Group Support.
  • Family integration and health workshops.

The Project is coordinated by Marta M

ENVIRONMENTAL AND RECYCLING PROJECT

Our Green Project seeks to educate all our users in the conservation of our environment, and besides stimulating our community to participate in different
recycling activities, we equip and train users in all matters related to the environment, also you are invited to join our Knitting and crochet group



VOLUNTEER PROJECT AND SKILL WORK

We invite all of our users to take part in this marvelous project which offers the opportunity to learn and practice work skills.
The Project also seeks to offer help and guidance with everything related to a working life and to equip everyone for work.
Important Activities to note and be envolved in LADPP is arranging magnificent raffles to raise resources for the organization.

Advice and Community Serveces

Advice and Community Services LADPP offer our Advice and Community Services thorough our dedicate team of staff and volunteers. We offer the following services:

  • Information, advice, representation and advocacy on welfare benefits, housing, education, health, and social care

Our Advice and Case work is given under the Community Legal Service Quality Mark standard. We are the only organization providing these services to the local community under this standard, and have been doing so since 2001.
We have established partnerships with:
  • The Refugee Health Team Lambeth PCT-NHS, running monthly health workshops and a complementary therapy project every Friday since March 2004.
  • Shelter London, providing a housing surgery at LADPP to deal with special housing cases since November 2004.
  • Becus Erasmus & Quercus from Spain, providing volunteer & placement work opportunities.
  • IRMO, providing immigration advice.
  • Foundation for International Education, from America offering work-placement opportunities.
  • Latin American Women’s Rights, providing counselling sessions by referral.
  • Volunteer Westminster, offering volunteer opportunities.
  • NAZ Project London. Working with Naz latina offering welfere and workshops to support Spanish and Portuguese  HIV positive people. Aslo offering sexual health education.

We also support our advice services working through our memberships with other organisations, receiving  capacity building, training and support that allowed us to offer to the communtiy a professional services. Organisation that support our work:

  • CAS Community Action Southwark, LASA, Advice UK, MODA, Evelyn Oldfiel Unit, Child Poverty Action Group, Disability Alliance, Refugee Centre.

We also support our activities through working in partnership with other Latin American and Portuguese organization in London

LADPP's Community Integration Project is supported by Southwark council through the Southwark Community Programme. Also thanks  to the support of Nationwide foundation we are able to offer our befriending services to the community.

To respond to the financial crisis that is currently affecting the charity sector, we are encouraging users/members of the organisation to make a donation and to join us so that we can continue to deliver our community services. Also we are offering Fundraising Activities aims at attracting financial sponsors to support our Advice and Community Integration Services.
