This week, Rowena Rivas-Goodall, aged 16, has written a guest blog post about her work experience at LADPP. We hope you enjoy it!

My time at LADPP

This charity is amazing!!! I say that sincerely coming from the heart. I haven’t been volunteering for long and for the time I’ve been here I’ve felt part of the family and helped in any way possible. I volunteered in the summer of 2013 for two weeks and now I am back for a short week for the summer.

Because this charity is small it can benefit the people more whereas the larger organisations which target a wide demographic audience and are in turn much harder to contact and to get help personally. At LADPP they do more than just help disabled people with benefits or teaching non-English speakers English, they create a close partnership with people within the community. It is a place where people can confide in and just come into the offices for a drink and a chat with fellow clients.
Since I’ve been at LADPP I have participated and helped out in many ways including: giving advice and looking over people’s CVs, helped teach English to the intermediate English class, filing client’s folders, researching and providing information about English classes outside the charity, speaking to clients, administration work and of course writing this blog.
I’ve met many people in my time here and I can say I do not regret any of the friendships I have created!
Everyone has been extremely friendly towards each other; it is like one big family. In the future, I would like to continue volunteering here as it feels rewarding knowing your making a difference in the community.
